Empowering Women in Barangay Mindupok, Maitum: REIGNA's Sustainable Livelihood Initiative

Hello WASP

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new initiative, REIGNA, made possible through the support of the LEAD-FBLP Program of the Asian Institute of Management and The Asia Foundation. This groundbreaking project aims to empower the women of Barangay Mindupok in Maitum, Sarangani, by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through coconut-based cosmetics production.

On September 14, 2024, we proudly launched the REIGNA initiative with our first Empowerment and Gender Equality Workshop in Barangay Mindupok, bringing together 21 mothers and female youth from the community for an impactful day of learning and empowerment. This workshop marks a vital step toward achieving our objectives of fostering economic independence, advancing gender equity, and promoting peacebuilding within the community.

The participants engaged in comprehensive training sessions focused on:

Gender Sensitivity: Deepening the understanding of gender roles and challenging stereotypes to promote equality. This session empowered women to recognize their inherent strengths and assert their rights within their families and communities.

Leadership Development: Providing women with the tools and confidence to take on leadership roles in community development and decision-making processes. Through this training, participants learned how to drive positive change and influence progress toward a more inclusive and equitable society.

Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding: Equipping participants with practical strategies for resolving conflicts and fostering a culture of peace in their community. By understanding the dynamics of conflict and peacebuilding, these women are now better prepared to act as mediators and advocates for harmony in Barangay Mindupok.

This workshop is the first of many steps toward our goal of creating sustainable livelihoods for the women of Mindupok. By providing them with the knowledge and skills to lead and resolve conflicts peacefully, we are laying the foundation for a more resilient, inclusive, and economically empowered community.

Why REIGNA Matters:

REIGNA is more than a livelihood project—it is a movement to foster empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainable development. By harnessing the abundant coconut resources in Barangay Mindupok, these women are not only building a sustainable business but also contributing to the peace and well-being of their community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated individuals and partners who made this workshop a success:

Hon. Tohamy R. Dimatingkal, Barangay Captain of Mindupok, for his unwavering support and leadership in the community.

Noemi K. Cuaresma, School Head of Dimatingkal-Kamid Elementary School, for providing a conducive environment for learning and engagement.

Ms. Danilyn De Guzman, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, for her invaluable insights into social welfare and gender empowerment.

Honorable Kenneth Rocapor, SK Federation President of Maitum Sarangani, for skillfully facilitating the leadership sessions.

2Lt. Charlotte Grace Rumbaua, 105IB, Philippine Army, for sharing her expertise in leadership and peacebuilding.

We also extend our deep appreciation to the WASP Coordinators and Facilitators—Ms. Annie Rose Gheorghiu, Ms. Norhaya Lumbatan, and Ms. Noron Tarusan—whose dedication and hard work ensured the smooth conduct of the workshop.

Together, we are building a brighter future for the women of Mindupok. Stay tuned for more updates on this inspiring journey, including the official launch of our REIGNA lip balm, crafted with love and care by the empowered women of Barangay Mindupok.
