WASP Asia Supports YUGTO Leadership Summit with the First Scout Ranger Regiment in Bulacan

CAMP TECSON, Bulacan | August 1, 2026 - The Women’s Alliance for Security and Peace (WASP) Asia joined the YUGTO Leadership Summit held at Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan, supporting efforts to strengthen youth leadership, civic responsibility, and peacebuilding.

The activity brought young leaders together in a learning environment that connected leadership development with service, discipline, and community engagement. The summit was conducted with the participation and support of the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSSR), Philippine Army.

WASP Asia was represented by its Co-Founder Pamela Nicole Mejia, Major Katrina Paula Aguilar, WASP Fellow; and Adela-Mae Marshall, who joined the program as resource speakers and shared their experiences and perspectives on leadership, personal development, and creating positive impact in their communities.

Building the Next Generation of Leaders

The YUGTO Leadership Summit provided young participants with an opportunity to learn from leaders working across the military, civil society, and private sectors.

WASP Asia emphasized that effective leadership begins with a clear sense of purpose. Young leaders were encouraged to understand their role in their communities, build resilience, make responsible decisions, and use their influence to create meaningful change.

The engagement also highlighted the importance of giving young people opportunities to interact with institutions involved in national security, peacebuilding, and public service.

For WASP Asia, youth engagement is an important part of building communities that are more informed, resilient, inclusive, and prepared to contribute to peace and development.

Strengthening Civil Society and Military Engagement

The summit also strengthened WASP Asia’s continuing engagement with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Through initiatives such as YUGTO, civil society organizations and military institutions can work together to create constructive spaces where young Filipinos can learn about leadership, service, responsibility, and nation-building.

WASP Asia’s participation reflects the organization’s commitment to connecting grassroots and youth leadership initiatives with the broader peace and security community.

The engagement at Camp Tecson also provided an opportunity for the WASP Asia team to engage with members of the First Scout Ranger Regiment and discuss shared interests in youth development, leadership, and community engagement.

YUGTO reflects a simple but important principle: leadership is not defined only by position or title. It is developed through service, responsibility, courage, and the willingness to contribute to something larger than oneself.

Through its leadership, cybersecurity, Women, Peace and Security, and community programs, WASP Asia continues to create opportunities for young people and women to strengthen their leadership capacities and participate meaningfully in building safer and more peaceful communities.

The YUGTO Leadership Summit adds another important chapter to WASP Asia’s growing collaboration with institutions of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in advancing leadership, youth engagement, and peacebuilding.
