In a significant move towards enhancing digital literacy and resilience, WASP through the US Emerging Voices Grant recently conducted a cybersecurity awareness session in Barangay Mindupok, Maitum, Sarangani Province on January 27, 2024. This initiative aimed to impart the vital importance of cybersecurity in a region notably vulnerable to online scams, providing essential knowledge and resources to a community facing the dual challenges of geographical isolation and ongoing armed conflict.

Recognizing the critical need for digital safety in these trying times, WASP brought this project to 30 local women and youth residents, including public school teachers. This endeavor is not just a response to the immediate threats posed by cyber scams but is also a proactive step towards a series of future socio-economic enhancement projects envisioned by WASP for the betterment of the community.

The success of this awareness session is attributed to the collective efforts and unwavering commitment of several key stakeholders. The expertise and dedication of WASP Fellow Noyaha Yhankee Lumabatan, the supportive presence of 1LT Michael Jordan and his team from Bravo Company of the 38IB Philippine Army, and the local support from the Barangay Officials of Brgy Mindupok, led by Brgy Captain Tohamy R. Dimatingkal, were pivotal. The session was further enriched by the provision of a secure and conducive venue by Maam Noemi Cuaresma, the respected School Head of Dimatingkal-Kamid Elementary School.

This cybersecurity awareness initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision between WASP, the US Emerging Voices Grant, and local partners.
